The United Nations (UN) has declared the period from 2005 to 2015 as the “Decade of water.” Approximately only half of the population of Africa has access to clean water leading to thousands of deaths per day in the other half who have little or no access to clean water, a basic essential we seem to take for granted in the developed world. The objective of the UN is to reduce the water problem by 50% before 2015. There is an ever increasing focus on the general shortage of water in Africa
